As the year comes to a close, I can’t think of a better way to end it than with an inspiring article on how to finish strong! Meet fellow blogger and friend, Kamapala of London. She is a phenomenal wife, mum of two adorable boys, certified life coach, author, and advocate for women empowerment. I hope her tips on ending the year strong help you as much as they’ve helped me!

Guest Post by Kamapala…

For most of us, the festive season of Christmas, or the holidays as it’s now being called is the most wonderful time of the year and rightly so. I mean what’s there not to love? The shopping, yummy delicious food, spending time with loved ones, snow, lights – just magical and I love it!

new year goals

All beautiful, all wonderful! However, others enter this season with dread and regret because it means another year gone, dreams not fulfilled, goals not achieved and the year is almost over. I can certainly identify with these feelings because I’ve been there many times than I care to admit. Thankfully, I can honestly say, I’d be ending the year on a high thanks to my new improved way of thinking .

1. Look at the year past with thanks

For starters I’m still alive, I guess so are you since you are reading this post 😉 That in itself brings much gratitude to my heart. I bet some of us lost loved ones through the course of the year. Loved ones who probably had goals to achieve but didn’t have the chance to work on them.

I’m grateful for my health (hope you’re in good health too), for my family, grateful for goals I actually achieved and grateful for a chance to work on the ones that are yet to be achieved.

2. Look back and take stock

“Self-examination is the key to insight, which is the key to wisdom” It’s so important that when we sit to take stock, we don’t do it with regret because let’s be honest, there’s nothing we can do to change the past. It’s gone… but we can certainly learn from it. What did you do well that you are proud of? What would you do differently? What relationships could you get rid of and which ones could you do with more nurturing?

Here’s a great tip for taking stock in 2019 which I’ve found quite helpful, and which helped me achieve a lot more in 2018 :  Do quarterly reviews or even monthly reviews to see how far you’ve come with achieving your goals. Don’t wait till the end of the year 😉

 3. Celebrate your successes

“Define success on your own terms, achieve it by your own rules, and build a life you’re proud to live” – Anne Sweeney Celebrate the wins you achieved this year, however great or small. Whether It was making time to spend with your family, or losing a few pounds or starting your business or learning a new skill. Celebrate, celebrate, celebrate. They are well deserved! You earned them. Cheers to more. Our wins serve as great confidence boosters for those ‘moments of self-doubt’.

4. Look to the coming year with hope

You are probably familiar with the saying “Where there’s life, there’s hope”. For all the things you planned and didn’t get to do in 2018, there’s hope for you to achieve these in 2019. For all the new goals you have for 2019, you have a fabulous chance of achieving them. Learn from your mistakes in 2018, make a well laid out plan, take action.

  1. Such inspiring words. It’s easy to forget the simplicity of being grateful to be alive… it gets lost in day to day happenings, but what a blessing it is! And writing down goals helps us celebrate successes! Me and my husband love to sit and write our goals together so we are on the same page, and it’s fun to look back and see the things we wanted to achieve and when we achieved them.

  2. Thanks for the reminder, looking back over our year is so important to recognize how far we’ve come! And I think we all forget to celebrate our successes (something I need to get better doing too!) Thanks again!

  3. It is good to focus on the positives and start off the New Year with some healthy thoughts. Thanks for sharing this – it can be easy to get bogged down with the bad and forget about the good.
